Beyond the First Connection: Celebrating Growth, Capital Access, and Lasting Impact in Houston

It was such a treat to come back to Houston for our end-of-the-year community showcase. Thinking back, I was actually at the very first one we ever hosted here, and walking into the room this time brought back a flood of incredible memories. There is something truly special about the entrepreneurial energy in Houston, and being able to return to the exact place where it all started for this final gathering of the year was nothing short of amazing. The atmosphere was electric, filled with the kind of passion and drive that makes this work so deeply fulfilling.
What made this showcase particularly awesome was seeing the sheer array of clients there. It wasn’t just a typical networking gathering; it was a living, breathing testament to growth and resilience. Two clients in particular, Marion Perez and Mia Upshaw, really stood out to me. They had come to our very first showcase, and they have been with us continuously since last year. Watching them evolve, consistently getting support, and leaning into the resources we offer has been incredibly rewarding. It is one thing to meet an ambitious entrepreneur at the very beginning of their journey, but it is an entirely different privilege to walk alongside them day by day as they build, pivot, and scale their visions into reality.

The absolute highlight of the night happened right in the middle of our gathering: Marion actually landed her Kiva approval the very same evening that we hosted the event! Experiencing that pivotal win with her in real time was unforgettable. Seeing the joy and relief on her face validated every late-night email and coaching session we’ve shared over the months. And so, I think for me, it comes full circle to be able to be part of business owners' journeys in so many different capacities - from their first nervous introduction to our community to the exact moment they secure the funding they need to thrive.
You see that long-term commitment reflected directly in the clients who are successfully getting capital, showing up to these events, and getting a chance to be in rooms that they normally wouldn’t be in. Access to those rooms changes everything - it opens up new networks and entirely new futures. When we invest time and belief into these visionary founders, the ripple effects transform their communities. It was such a great pleasure and a great joy of mine to spend time there again as we close out the year. We are grateful for the experiences, the connections, and our beautiful IFEL family.
If others in your network should be involved in this important work, invite them to join the circle. If you know an entrepreneur in your network who needs support, invite them to apply for support.
Thank you to the volunteers and champions who showed up as well. We look forward to continuing to make a difference together.
